MONTEFALCO, LAND OF WINE

Wine, culture, wonderful food and a great quality of life

We’re in Umbria, among vineyards nestled in its hills, deep in nature, with wonderful historic villages and treasures of great artistic and cultural value, where the earth’s bounty is transformed by recipes handed down through the generations – paired with unique and remarkable wines. Just like Italy. Montefalco, along with the other towns embraced by the appellation that is named after it, has always been a great “land of wine”, as evidenced by the many historical documents which tell of its hills particularly suited to viticulture.

Sagrantino is the grape symbol of this territory, bastion of authenticity and essence of this extraordinary terroir, but it is not the only one: a primus inter pares, so demonstrating the area’s vocation to produce great wines and revealing a territory with multiple potentials both for reds and whites. Beyond the single interpretations, what comes out the glass is a common trait and an innate aptitude, of Montefalco and the surrounding lands, to welcome the vineyard and make it express at its best. Here numerous native varieties and appellations, linked to both red wines and whites, flourish, so creating an increasingly exciting and colorful map.

ORVIETO IS UNDOUBTEDLY ONE OF THE MOST COMPELLING AND HISTORIC WINES OF ITALY.

The zone represents a rich, 3,000-year-old unbroken legacy of wine production. The town itself has been the spiritual center of Central Italy since the time of the Etruscans, which is evident in its maze of meticulously preserved underground caves and breathtaking Duomo with its magnificent colored glass facade, rose window, and striped exterior built from the same Tufo and Marble found in the landscape. During the 13th century, Orvieto was a refuge for 5 Popes, and the wines rose to be among Italy’s most sought-after.

In the last 40 years, Orvieto has undergone an Estate bottling revolution, which has spurred a culture of quality and pursuit of terroir values in the region. The wines of Orvieto are as unique and varied as the land, which is comprised of 4 terroirs: sandy, clay, alluvial, and volcanic, with wines that reflect these nuances. Orvieto DOC is one of the few great terroirs of the world to produce wines made Botrytis affected grapes and includes a wide range of styles, from delicate and dry to layered and complex, off-dry and unctuous.

IN OUR WINES, THE LAKE

The wines of the Trasimeno Consortium preserve the essence of their territory. They tell of hilly slopes that gently descend towards the lake, of ancient hamlets and of a life lived in total harmony with the surrounding nature. They tell of young farmers that work together every day to GIVE VALUE to the products of their land, which for centuries has allowed the cultivation of this precious fruit.

The Trasimeno Consortium REPRESENTS sixteen members who work in synergy for a common goal: to enhance the production of the DOC Appellation and the area around the Lake Trasimeno, also from a slow and sustainable tourism point of view.

One of the Consortium’s TOP AIMS IS TO PROMOTE the Trasimeno Gamay, a red grape variety typical of this area and part of the Grenache family, in particular through events such as the Trasimeno Rosé festival in spring and the Anteprima Trasimeno in autumn.

A DENOMINATION OF CULTURAL ORIGIN

The first DOC (1968) and DOCG (1990) of Umbria thanks to red and white wines fully embodying the Umbrian spirit: authentic, reserved but generous. Not only: considering its richness of elements linked to wine history and culture, Torgiano could be granted a recognition of “Cultural Denomination of Origin”.

Heart of the green heart of Italy, Torgiano offers a landscape where nature is still predominant on its rolling hills covered by vineyards, alternating with olive groves and brushwoods that guarantee biodiversity.

Originating as a Roman fort, walled since the 13th century, the village with its mansions rich in history is set on a rise at the confluence of the Tiber and Chiascio rivers and still offers a high quality of life and a thriving community, respectful of its traditions. In recent decades, following the Second War, when its wines arose to international fame, and thanks to the birth of the Wine Museum and high-end accommodations, Torgiano has become a destination for luxury tourism from Italy and abroad, attracted by the three pillars of premium wine tourism: wine, culture and hospitality.
